For nearly 20 years, Able Flight has been opening doors to aviation for people with physical disabilities -providing the opportunity to earn pilot certification and pursue careers in the aviation industry.

Now based at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Able Flight builds on a strong partnership with SIU Aviation to expand access, remove barriers, and create new pathways into flight training and aviation careers.

How it works

    Through competitive scholarships, Able Flight provides comprehensive support for individuals ready to take on the challenge of flight training. Scholarships may include:

    • Flight and ground school training
    • Testing fees and study materials
    • Travel and housing during training

    These programs help participants earn pilot certification or pursue aviation career pathways, building confidence, independence, and new professional opportunities

    • More than 100 individuals have earned pilot certification through Able Flight programs
